Creating a Pink Peony Watercolor Painting

Share

This Peony watercolor was created by starting with the faintest shades of pink and building up each pedal gradually to create depth. I variegated the pedals, painting some with hints of salmon and others with hints of purple and it was time consuming, taking me a whole afternoon to complete. But I’m really happy with the end result.

The Subscription Box

Each month a box arrives from Let’s Make Art with the supplies to complete 4 projects. I think the boxes are adorable and I store completed watercolor paintings, paints and other supplies in them after completing the projects.

I really love this painting. It took hours to complete, and it might not be cute like the panda or seahorses. But it’s the first painting I’ve done that made me feel like I’ve created a real watercolor. Maybe it’s because a single flower is seen popular in traditional watercolors? I don’t know. As the result, I feel like I’ve stepped threw a threshold by completing it.

I’m not sure what tutorial I’ll be trying next. However, after the labor of love I put into this Peony, I’m sure it will be something fun and easy, lol.
